Shortly before his death in 1986 my father gave me a book previously owned by my grandfather called "Knutsford and It's Neighbourhood" published in 1887. My grandfather had placed various page markers wherever there were references to a prominent Cheshire family who spelt their name Daniell.
Anxious to try to satisfy my father's curiosity I set out in headlong pursuit of some rapid answers.
I traced my own family back to Thomas Daniel, Yeoman, of Dean Row, Co. Cheshire, probably born 10th April 1703, the son of John Daniel of Bollin Fee.
I also discovered that the descendants of Robert D'Anyers, of Norman origin and living 1291, became the Daniell families of Over Tabley, Daresbury, Bradley in Appleton, etc. and that the family history of these Cheshire descendants is well recorded.
I have since discovered that descendants of Robert D'Anyers had also settled in Norfolk, Suffolk, Essex, Gloucestershire, and Wiltshire by the 16th century.
I have been unable to make a link from the Daniell's of Over Tabley, or Daresbury, to my own family.
However, since the recorded history of these families follows only the line of inheritance we can be sure there are many with the name Daniell, Daniel, or Daniels who are unrecorded descendants of Robert D'Anyers.
